Henceforth Brewery

ZDS collaborated closely with the owners of Henceforth Brewery to transform a 124-year-old brick building on H Street Northeast into a contemporary brewery and social anchor for the neighborhood. The former site of the H Street Country Club, a storied nightlife institution, the building required a full gut renovation and a strategic design approach to meet the technical demands of brewing within a narrow, low-clearance space.
Working across architecture and interiors, ZDS created a layered, mid-century-inspired environment that offers a fresh alternative to the typical industrial aesthetic. From custom millwork and vintage furnishings to soft materials and curated artwork, the design reflects a thoughtful blend of form and function. The result is a hospitality-driven space that feels both intimate and iconic — one that balances operational efficiency with a strong, distinct identity.
